Beth Billups is a studio artist from Detroit, Michigan. Her encaustic mixed media paintings explore how home, identity and happenstance combine to form personal narratives. She builds layers of meaning by combining ephemera, oil paint and beeswax, rendering modern images in an ancient medium. She currently works and lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband, three children and two dogs.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Beth Billups is a mixed media artist who has exhibited her work and taught for the past 20 years. She studied tile making at Pewabic Pottery in Detroit and spent 10 years producing tile work for residential, retail and corporate clients in Michigan. In 2006 she discovered encaustics and never looked back. She sold her kiln, reworked her studio space and began exploring the wonders of wax. Her encaustic work has been included in numerous publications and has been exhibited across the country.
