The goal of this project is to promote an environment of community wholeness, inclusiveness and understanding by collaborating on works of art. Our plan is to facilitate Ann Arbor Women Artists (AAWA) member artists in reaching out to diverse individuals in the Ann Arbor community to find commonalities despite on-the-surface differences and to create works of art which express discovered commonalities. The purpose is to honor our diversity and find our commonalities. We see this project as a pilot for an ongoing community engagement program, which would organize community wide pop-up events with the purpose of discovering commonalities.
AAWA is a non-profit organization open to all visual artists 18 and older. AAWA has approximately 300 members with connections to Ann Arbor, Michigan, ranging from beginning to professional artists. The purpose of the AAWA is to stimulate creative expression and sharing among its members in order to continually raise the quality of the art produced.
